Eluru: The foundation stone will be laid for the premier educational institution, National Institute of Technology (NIT), in the Airfields of Tadepalligudem on August 26. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union HRD Minister Smrithi Irani will lay foundation stone to the NIT.

Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao told newsmen at Tadepalligudem on Sunday that NIT classes will be temporarily conducted at Vasavi Engineering College at Peda Tadepalli. Initially, confusion prevailed over the location of the NIT in West Godavari district as leaders of the BJP and TDP aired contrasting views.

Earlier, the NIT was proposed to be established at Eluru, the headquarters city of West Godavari district. Even Warangal NIT team was asked to set up the NIT in Eluru. The NIT team from Warangal visited the Pedda Cheruvu site at Vatluru village adjacent to the National Highway.

They also approved Sir C R Reddy Engineering College as temporary accommodation for the NIT. The counselling for admissions was conducted by the NIT officials. At this stage, Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao has announced that the NIT will be established at Tadepalligudem only.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who visited the district several times, has reiterated that the prestigious institution will be established in West Godavari district. Later, Manikyala Rao went to Delhi and requested Union HRD Minister Smrithi Irani to allot NIT to Tadepalligudem.

He said 172.8 acres of land at Airfields in Tadepalligudem is ready for the establishment of the NIT. At this juncture, differences between TDP and BJP leaders surfaced at the district level. Some TDP leaders and legislators opposed the setting up of NIT at Tadepalligudem. Later, they agreed to the proposal made by the Endowments Minister.

Manikyala Rao and Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju succeeded in getting sanction order for the NIT at Tadepalligudem. Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju and legislators from the district will take part in the foundation stone laying ceremony.
