Vijayawada: The Opposition parties are gearing up for one-day State bandh on Tuesday in support of Special Status for the State. For the first time that all Opposition parties – YSRCP, Congress, CPI and CPI-M and people’s organisations – have come together to take on the ruling TDP-BJP alliance.
The Communist Party of India took the lead and called for the bandh to mount pressure on the government for the Special Status to the State as was promised at the time of bifurcation. While the Congress-led UPA, which was in power at that time, had promised Special Status for five years, the BJP, which was in Opposition had sought the privilege for 10 years.
