Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday refuted the charges leveled against him by the Opposition parties on getting special category status to the State. He alleged that these parties were politicising every issue and misleading people. He also accused the Opposition of causing hurdles to his efforts to develop the State.


The Chief Minister who reached here on Wednesday night from Delhi, held review meeting with the Ministers and officials on the SC and BC welfare. Later, he addressed a news conference where he took both the Congress and the YSR Congress party to task. He said no leader in the State has the credibility and commitment to question his efforts.

He said he had developed united Andhra Pradesh from revenue deficit to a surplus State and would be able to repeat it in the residual State. He said his vision was to develop the State providing better infrastructure keeping in mind the future needs.Naidu criticised Jaganmohan Reddy for creating problems in land acquisition for the capital and said that the Opposition leader, without knowledge and experience, was creating problems in land acquisition, Pattiseema and Polavaram projects.

He said he was trying to convince the farmers to co-opearate with the government in building the new capital and irrigation projects. He would speak to the Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and clarify his doubts on land pooling and land acquisition.Referring to his visit to Delhi and meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM said that he had explained the prevailing situation in the State and the promises made to the people during elections, besides the promises made at the time of bifurcation.

He said the PM responded positively to his requests and promised to extend the best possible support to the State. Stating that special category status is not the only answer to every problem in the State, the Chief Minister said that industrial incentives are not connected to the special status. He said he was focusing more on industrial incentives, 90 per cent grant, more Centre-sponsored schemes to the State, which would help in the overall development.

Naidu was aware of the confidence reposed on him by the people and assured to live up to their expectations. He appealed to the people not to be provoked by the opposition parties on special category status since he was examining every aspect to get maximum support to the State from the Centre and even from outside.

“We are already in a number one position among the Southern States and I will take the State to the top slot in the country,” he asserted. Referring to the Enforcement Directorate attaching properties of Jaganmohan Reddy, the Chief Minister said that the government would make a law to take-over those properties and use them for the State.
