Launching AP State Literacy Mission website as part of sixth literacy day celebrations here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister stressed the need for development of AP as education and knowledge hub.

He said that there are 45 lakh illiterates in the State adding that a target was set to achieve cent per cent literacy rate by 2019-20.The Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh has highest number of women in Dwcra groups and their services should be utilised to improve literacy rate.

Quoting the success stories of women through Saksharata Mission, he said education would improve confidence and knowledge. There is no need for women to depend on any one for their daily needs if they are educated, he added.

Expressing concern over AP’s 36th rank in literacy in the country, he flayed the Congress government for the poor literacy rate. The Chief Minister said that capital region of Amaravati would be developed as a land of opportunities in the coming 10 years by developing human resources and implementing skill development programmes.
