Hyderabad: Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara, is all set to become manufacturing hub for mobile handsets and components soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay foundation stone for Venkateswara Mobile & Electronics Manufacturing Hub at the temple town on Thursday, which is projected to generate 10,000 jobs within a year.

“AP Government's decision to set up the dedicated mobile handset manufacturing facility in Tirupati, will be another important milestone to leverage the State's ability to attract further investments into this sector,” said Pankaj Mohindroo, National President, Indian Cellular Association (ICA),

the apex body of mobile industry in the country. The ICA expects the Tirupati hub to generate at least 5 per cent of the all India target of 15 lakh new jobs in this sector by the year 2019. According to him, AP is on course to become a hub for mobile handset and component manufacturing companies.

“AP is fast turning out to be a preferred destination for mobile handset and component manufacturing companies. Suitable regulatory interventions and proactive support provided by the State administration during the past 4-6 months are turning out to be the clinching factors to turn these investment decisions in favour of AP", he explained.

Mohindroo, who is also Chairman of Fast Track Task Force (FTTF) set up by the central government to promote mobile handset manufacturing eco-system in India, further said: “Foxconn has already started operations in AP for manufacturing brands like Xiomi, Gionee etc. Other important brands like Micromax, Karbonn and Celkon would be kick starting their manufacturing operations soon".

ICA has been closely working the AP Government to transform the State into a leading global manufacturing destination for mobile handsets. “We are working with the AP Government to set up design and incubation centres to establish the State as a truly global scale mobile handset manufacturing hub, based on the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ visions”, Mohindroo maintained.
