Vijayawada: Tension prevailed for some time in Gudivada town as police arrested MLA Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani) on Sunday following complaint lodged by the owner of the house where the local YSRCP party office is located.

It is said that there was a dispute between the MLA and the house owner over vacating the party office. The house owner lodged a complaint in one town police station. When the house owner started painting works to his building, the MLA reached the place in the morning and abused those who were painting the building.

Gudivada DSP Y Ankineedu Prasad arrested the MLA and shifted him to Kaikaluru police station. Later the MLA was brought to Gudivada one town police station and released on station bail.

Later speaking to mediapersons, the MLA said that the police arrested him following the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He dared Naidu to defeat him in the coming elections from Gudivada. Naidu should desist from resorting to harassment of opposition leaders, he said.

The MLA said that he has been a tenant at the house for the past 11 years and paying a rent of Rs 12,000 at present. The house owner foisted case after he was instigated by the TDP leaders, Nani alleged. The followers of the MLA staged a rally in the town in protest against the arrest of their leader.
