Christians on carolling spree
The 5,000 odd churches in the district are engaged in carol singing with every church carol bands going on a carolling spree visiting houses, orphanages, old age homes, Aids rehabilitation centres and homes of the poor and needy. Carol singing bands sing the famous carol songs including ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Silent Night Holy Night’ and ‘Joy to the World, The Lord is come and Let Earth Receive the King’, which are sung universally in all languages. These songs bring about Christmas atmosphere one week before the actual day of Christmas when carol bands visit homes on cold winter nights, waking up people from their sleep and as the carol bands reverberate the homes with songs, the bands are welcomed into the homes and served hot coffee and Christmas cakes. These carol bands hire buses and visit homes throughout the night breaking the midnight silence.
