Rajahmundry: YSRCP farmers wing state president Nagi Reddy and MLC Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose have said agriculture sector is in turmoil and farmers are struggling due to lack of remunerative price and lack of buyers for discoloured paddy.

They addressed reporters here on Tuesday along with MLC Adireddi Appa Rao, former MLA Routhu Suryaprakasa Rao, Rajahmundry rural constituency coordinator Akula Veerraju and famrers leader Kovvuri Thrinadha Reddyin Rajahmundry on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said that farmers were not getting insurance for the paddy, which is being damaged due to heavy rains. He demanded for amendment of crop insurance act. When the same situation prevailed in the year 2009, he reminded that the then chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had brought water from Sileru and Kinnerasani. He demanded the government not to dilute agriculture, which contributes 25 percent of the state GDP.

Nagi Reddy highlighted the government’s failure in releasing water to total ayacut in two Godavari districts, which are the rice bowl of the country. He alleged that the TDP government had initiated Pattiseema lift irrigation project for the sake of kickbacks instead of taking up Polavaram project, which is the long pending demand of all sections of the people. He lamented that the Polavaram project works did not move an inch even after 18 months rule of the TDP and BJP. He faulted both the TDP and BJP for ignoring their poll promise of implementation of Swaminthan Commission recommendations.
