Kakinada: The three-day Beach Festival, popularly known as Sagara Sambaralu, will be organised on a massive scale in Kakinada beach from January 8 to 10.

With the state festival tag to the three day event, the authorities are making grand arrangements as the government sanctioned Rs 1 crore funds for this purpose with special focus on tourism development.

As part of conduct of the programme, three separate entry points are being provided this year keeping in view the difficulties faced by visitors during previous year. As far as allocation of stalls was concerned, this year the authorities made it open for women Self-Help Groups (SHGs. Women SHGs from all the 13 districts of the State will be allowed. Besides food courts, entertainment programmes will be arranged under Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme. Under the tourism-linked programme, special focus will be laid on package visit by chopper with inclusion of Hope Island, Mada forest area (Koringa mangroves) and Konaseema.

It is likely that the ariel view is expected to cost Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 for the tourist for a 20-minute ride. In addition to this, boat ride to the Hope Island is being arranged from NTR Beach to Hope Island for a distance of about 12 km from dawn to dusk. As a special package, the authorities will take up illumination on the island and arrange food courts to cater to the needs of tourists. When contacted, Kakinada RDO and sub-divisional magistrate B R Ambedkar said that special focus of the festival would be tourism development.
