Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the President accorded him an affectionate welcome addressing him as an old friend. Sivaji recalled his association with Pranab Mukherjee when he was the Minister for Commerce and himself was member of Standing Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Commerce.
I K Gujral was chairman of the standing committee. During the period, Sivaji was entrusted with the job of conducting the meetings of the committee and drafting the report. This committee examined the Dunkel draft, impact of WTO on India etc.
After his (Sivaji) retirement as MP, Pranab asked Sivaji to head a High Powered Committee on Commercial Crops saying that the nation needed his services. The President appreciated the contribution of Sivaji to the farmers and agriculture.
