1.75 lakh applications received for PMAY: Ganta

Visakhapatnam: Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao informed that a total of 1.75 lakh applications received for the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMRY) on the last day on Thursday and 50,000 for regularisation of houses built in the vacant lands of government.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday after reviewing the Janmabhoomi programme arrangements, the Minister said that 1.15 lakh new ration cards would be distributed and the 102 service will be launched in Narsipatnam and Anakapalli government hospitals in the district.
The Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) evoked a huge response from the people as many as 7,382 applications were received from the 67th ward and 721 applications from 73rd ward. The Central government has launched the scheme with a slogan of ‘Housing for all’. It has sanctioned 20,030 houses for the current fiscal to Bhimunipatnam and Anakapalli, along with Visakha city. All local Mee- Seva Centres were jam-packed with those submitting applications on the last day on Thursday.

Each house will be built with an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 lakh of which the beneficiary have to bear Rs 50,000 towards his contribution and a bank loan will be provided for Rs 2 lakh, while the Centre and the State governments will give a subsidy of Rs 2 lakh.

The scheme will be in force for a period of five years and all eligible beneficiaries would get houses in phases and the revenue department is now in search of vacant sites.
