Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called upon the party cadre to feel responsible and participate in the service activities, as a tribute to the legendary actor and Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao.

Speaking after inaugurating the Legendary Blood Donation Drive organised by the NTR Trust to mark the 20th death anniversary of the veteran leader here on Monday, Chief Minister said that NTR was a versatile actor revered by millions of Telugu people because of the name and fame he brought to the Telugus across the globe.

He said that the present day politics was fraught with corruption and there was every need to cleanse it. NTR was still remembered for launching welfare schemes for the benefit of the downtrodden and asked leaders and cadre to make every effort to realise NTR's vision.

Naidu also reminded that the welfare programmes launched by NTR were still being followed by many States in the country. He was a pioneer in launching programmes such as housing for weaker sections and subsidised rice.

Giving a detailed structure of the development programmes taken up by the TDP government during 19-month rule, Naidu said that about Rs 24,000 crore crop loans were waived till date. Welfare pension was increased to Rs 1,000 from Rs 200 and 12.5 lakh ration cards were issued to the poor, he added.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that the government will take measures to provide internet facility (10 mbps to 15 mbps) to each household in the State by June. He said that the inter-linking of the Godavari and Krishna rivers and the completion of the Polavaram multipurpose project by 2019 will make Andhra Pradesh a drought-proof State.

Naidu also exhorted that about Rs 5 lakh crore will be invested by the corporates in AP in coming days, as the State government had signed MOUs with companies in the recently concluded 22nd edition of Confederate of Indian Industry (CII) at Visakhapatnam.

TDP State president Kala Venkata Rao, MLC Buddha Venkanna, former Whip Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Local MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), West constituency in-charge Nagula Meera, City Mayor Koneru Sreedhar, deputy mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.
