Kadapa: The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) students of Rajiv Knowledge (RK) valley at Idupulapaya made their institute proud by winning second prize in a technical symposium organised by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Calicut in Kerala recently. They got second prize for vehicle alerter.

NIT Director MN Bnadhopadyaya and convener Isub Jacob have presented the prize and certificate to IIIT students. The civil engineering students Vinay Kumar (second year) and Siva Saahi (third year) have invented a vehicle alerter. Vinay hails from Hindupuram while Siva from Kamalapuram in Kadap district. This multi-purpose electronic device can alert the truck driver by the vibrations in the entire driving cabin and also to the driver simultaneously if he slips into sleep while driving the vehicle.

Even the vibrations can work as a signal jammer in the driver’s cabin to avoid him from talking on cell phone while driving. It can send a message to the mobile phones belonging to the family members of a driver, in case, if he meets with the accident. The device can also send message to emergency numbers 108 and 104.

Students took three months to prepare the device and tested their new invention by attaching to the driver’s cabin. They got very good results which they have expected.

Vinay and Siva said that they have found in a survey as part of study that more accidents are taking place when the driver dozed off at the wheels. Speaking to The Hans India, Vinay said that records at Guvvala Cheruvu, Nandaluru and Vontimitta police stations also revealed the same reasons.

Students said that they can make device available in commercial markets if electronic manufacturing companies are ready to sponsor them. They said vehicle alerter can be made with Rs 200 only.
