Chittoor: Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) Prathap gave a call to all sections of the society to make an effort in reducing the road accident deaths in the district. He stated that drivers should be very cautious while driving so that accidents are averted. Political leaders, police and government officials, and students have participated in Road Safety Week celebrations organised by the Transport department at ZP meeting hall here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, the DTC said that the successive State governments have taken preventive measures for reducing the accident deaths by conducting awareness programmes for the last several years. “In AP, 7,459 persons died and 27,405 were injured from the total of 34,844 accidents,” he added. Chittoor MLA Satyaprabha, who attended as a chief guest for the function, advised parents to restrict their children from driving at high speeds on the roads. Additional SP Abhishek Mohanty, Chittoor in-charge Mayor R Subri, prominent industrialist V Sunder Naidu, Jana Vignana Vedika district president Ranganatham, DSP (Traffic) Srikanth, RTO Subba Rao and other officials were present.
