Anantapur: The two-day annual Lepakshi festival in the district concluded on a grand note with a host of film stars taking part in the valedictory on Sunday.

Besides Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy and Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Paritala Sunitha, Manikyala Rao, film stars Mohan Babu, Ambarish, Sumalata and Balakrishna graced the occasion.

Addressing a gathering, Hindupur MLA Balakrishna said that the Lepakshi festival will remain as a sweet memory in his life. He said the State government is striving to develop Lepakshi as a famous tourist spot.

Tourists from home and abroad visit Lepakshi temple, the Nandi idol at the temple is totally different from that of similar idols in various temples.

Balakrishna, who said that he recently had attended Medaram tribal festival, said that he is treading the footsteps of his father NT Rama Rao who strove hard to spread Telugu popularity all over the world.

He thanked the ministers in the Cabinet and those in the Union Cabinet for pledging their support for development of Hindupuram constituency.

The VIPs attending the two-day Lepakshi Festival had a darshan of Lord Veerabhadra Swamy. Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu, Endowments Minister Manikyala Rao, Karnataka Housing Minister Ambarish, his wife Sumalata and film actor M Mohan Babu.

The VIPs were presented prasadam and the Lord’s portraits. Devotees were also allowed to have a darshan. The police made elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Veerabhadraswamy temple priests Raghuvendra Prasad Sarma and Ramakrishna Sarma explained the significance and construction details of the temple to the VIPs. They showed the tortoise shaped shilpam at the entrance.

The priests also explained the significance of art works like Seetamahaswamy padukalu, idols in Natya Mandapam, historic paintings, hanging pillar, and the reasons for the stoppage of the temple’s Kalyana Mandapam. They said the Veerabhadra idol was installed during the rule of the Vijayanagara Kings.
