New Delhi: The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Y S Chowdary, here on Friday criticised the media reports that painted him in bad picture and as a land grabber. He said neither him nor his family members had bought land illegally and to such extent as 700 acres mentioned.

Properties owned by his family if any were perfectly legal and they had not occupied or grabbed any government or private land illegally. Speaking to the media here on Friday, he said it was unfortunate that such a campaign was launched against him. However, there was no need to counter the media resorting to this legally, as there was no truth in the allegations. Development of the State was being affected and it was up to the government to mull any action at all, he added.

If there were illegalities in any land deal, agencies concerned would take action as per the law and provisions, he said. The government could not waste its time responding to every allegation as it got better things to do, he said. Whether to initiate legal action against the media house for the mudslinging was in the purview of the Chief Minister's office and the latter would take appropriate measures, he said.

Refuting the charges of allegations, he said he was not aware of any Hailand and he came to know of the Agri Gold issue only through the media. People should mull over the origins of the YSRCP rather than focus on the issues raised by its paper and channel, he suggested.
