Vijayawada: The Kanyakaparameswari Annasatram Committee has set the tone for the city to celebrate the annual Mahasivaratri festival. The festival’s prime event of Chariot Procession is slated for March 8 this time which would be inaugurated by the city police Commissioner D Gautam Sawang, said the the committee president Bayana Hareswara Rao here on Saturday.

The committee had started the festival on Saturday by decorating the presiding deities of Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamy and Sri Bhadrakali Veerabhadra Swamy in Old Sivalayam and Sri Ganga Parvati Sameta Vasantha Mallikharjuna Swamy of Buddhuvari Sivalayam in Brahmin Street for the celestial wedding. The celebrations would conclude on March 10 with Pavalimpu Seva for the deities of which the chariot procession on March 8 would have the highest number of devotees witnessing.

Hareswara Rao said that the events would mark feeding the devotees on all days and special discourses by eminent personalities. MP Kesineni Srinivas, Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, legislators Jaleel Khan, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Gadde Ramamohana Rao, MLC Budda Venkanna, Mayor Koneru Sridhar would participate in the chariot procession.

He said that the chariot procession would pass through the canal road in the city with the devotees watching the colourful event from either sides of the road. The committee would also organize display of a wide range of cultural progrmames and the folk dances to add religious fervor to the event.

The committee vice-president, Vallamkonda Prasad, assistant secretaries Matta Venkata Subba Rao and Dogiparthi Shankara Rao, treasurer Challa Harinarayana were also present at the news conference.
