Vizagites celebrate Sivaratri with devotion

Visakhapatnam: Lakhs of people thronged RK Beach where TSR Sevapeetham organised Mahakumbhabhishekam and Rudrayagam on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri observed all over of the city and surroundings on Monday.

Rajya Sabha member Dr T Subbarami Reddy on behalf of the TST Sevapeetham performed special pujas, Rudrayagam and MahaKmbhaasbhishekam at the giant Sivalingam specially erected for the occasion on the sands of RK Beach.

This is for the 31st year. Dr Reddy is performing yagams at RK Beach. Seer of Sarada Peetham Swarupanandendra Swamy, former minister and well known actor Krishnam Raju and his family members, actor Suman, former minister P Balaraju and city Congress leaders came in a big number and participated in the yagams.

“These special pujas are being held for the welfare of not only Vizagites but entire world, which needs the blessings of Lord Siva,” Dr Subbarami Reddy told the reporters after the programme.

Sevapeetham has also arranged over 150 artistes who performed cultural programmes and devotional songs at a specially erected stage on the beach close to the giant Sivalingam.

Elsewhere in the city people thronged Siva temples from the early hours of the day and offered special pujas. The famous Siva temple in old city and others in Madhuaravada, Madhavadhara, Marripalem, Angadidibba, MVP Colony, Dasapalla Hills, Dabagardens and Gnanapuram were packed with the devotees.

The day was celebrated with devotion and religious fervour at Sri Sathyasai Prema Sadan Mandir in MVP Colony.

Kalyanam of Parvathi Parameshwara was performed with joy and devotion. Later, the idols of Siva and Parvathi were taken around in a procession.

Samithi singers rendered bhajans at railway area, Akkayyapalem, Old City area, Dabagardens, Madhurawada, PM Palem, Seethammadhara, HB Colony, Visalakshinagar, Sagarnagar, MVP Colony, LB colony and Thatichetlapalem.

Devotee rush at Shaiva temples
Vizianagaram: All the Shiva temples in the district are heavily crowded with public on the occasion of MahaShivaratri.

Thousands of devotees from several areas of the district thronged prominent temples like Punyagiri and Ramateertham. RTC operated special buses for the convenience of public.

Pubic belief is that Someshwarswami Temple at Gumpa village was installed by Balarama in Dwaparyuga. Thousands of devotees visited the temple, which was located at the joining point of rivers Nagavali and Jhanjavati.

Endowments authorities made special arrangements like providing water supply and laying tents to facilitate the public.

Devotees are fasting and staying awake all the night to get the lord’s blessings.
