Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government ordered a CB-CID inquiry into the misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 1.4 crore in Rayalaseema University.
A probe carried out by the vigilance and enforcement wing of the general administration department found that vouchers related to execution of several civil works executed in the university were missing.
A report, submitted to the government, by the vigilance and enforcement officials, concluded that there was prime facie evidence of loss of stock, irregularities in execution of civil works without estimates and agreements, besides violation of norms in purchase of different items by the officials of the university.
It was found that the vouchers related to different works executed to the tune of Rs 1.39 crore and university’s furniture worth Rs 7.7 lakh have been found missing.
Following this, the government on Friday ordered the CB-CID to probe into missing vouchers and university furniture which took place during the tenure of former vice-chancellor Prof J V Prabhakar Rao, present vice-chancellor Prof K Krishna Naik.
The probe will also cover decisions of former registrar of the university Prof N T K Naik, who is currently working as a principal of the university college.
Besides, former Superintendent and present Assistant Registrar M V Narayanappa too has been brought under the probe.
For a speedy investigation, the State Higher Education department and Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) have been directed to take steps to appoint a nodal officer to assist the CB-CID to enable it complete the investigations into the allegations and to recovery of the loss caused to the State exchequer.
