Ongole: A conman who posed himself as IPS trainee cheated civilians and policemen in the name of jobs and marriage in Prakasam district. Upon suspicion about the behaviour of the culprit, a person complained to Chirala police about the duplicate IPS. Kajja Pulla Rao (31) is a native of Yerrabalem village in Krosuru mandal. He is residing in Eepurupalem in Prakasam district.

He studied B Tech in Royal Institute of Engineering and Technology in Chevella in Telangana from 2007 to 2011. He married a lady constable in 2012 and shifted to Eepurupalem in 2013. Later, he started convincing his friends and relatives at his native place and Eepurupalem that he was selected for IPS in the UPSC exams and needs to take a short training before appointment.

Pulla Rao was successful in convincing the local police officials and Karemchedu SI of police Rajesh also, posing himself as a trainee IPS and looking for matches. After a number of meetings, Rajesh found an alliance from his relatives for Pulla Rao. In the mean time, Pulla Rao used to boast that he has a great friendship with the police officials and politicians who can influence and finalize the SI recruitment process.

He demanded Rs 40 lakh from an MBA graduate from Guntur district, Challa Purna Chandra Reddy. He tried to convince Purna Chandra Reddy by making calls using a ‘magic voice changer’ app in his mobile, pretending as the official handling the recruitment process. But, sensing something fishy in the behaviour of Pulla Rao, Purna Chandra Rao approached Karemchedu SI Rajesh.

Upon investigation, Rajesh was shocked to know that they were fooled by an impersonator. Purna Chandra Rao and Rajesh registered two complaints in Karemchedu police station for cheating and impersonating as police official. Speaking at the SP office in Ongole on Tuesday evening, the Chirala DSP Jayarama Raju said, “We have arrested the culprit Pulla Rao on today for impersonating as a police official and cheating public.

If any other person in the state were also cheated by him, they could come forward with a complaint to take further action against him. The public here by are advised not to believe any person promising to provide jobs in police department by bribing the officials and asked to give information about such persons to the police department.”
