The IG specialised in Naval Communication systems and is an alumnus of College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He has held various important operational and staff appointments both afloat and ashore, noteworthy of which are command of four Coast Guard ships, twice as Director Operations at Coast Guard headquarters prior taking over as Regional Coast Guard Commander of Andaman and  Nicobar.  

Visakhapatnam: Inspector General Satya Prakash Sharma of Coast Guard arrived here on Thursday on a four-day visit to Andhra Pradesh. The senior Coast Guard officer is on a farewell visit to Coast Guard Establishments within Andhra Pradesh. IG Satya Prakash Sharma, a second batch officer of Indian Coast Guard, assumed Command of Coast Guard Region (East) on December 29, 2010. He will be retiring from service on April 30 this year on attaining the age of superannuation.
