As an inaugural event of the summer art camp by Cultural Centre of Vijayawada (CCV), ‘on spot’, a painting competition was held at the Aakriti Art Gallery in the city on Sunday. Scores of young children took part in the competition which was followed by a workshop.

As an inaugural event of the summer art camp by Cultural Centre of Vijayawada (CCV), ‘on spot’, a painting competition was held at the Aakriti Art Gallery in the city on Sunday. Scores of young children took part in the competition which was followed by a workshop.

Children under 12 years of age were asked to paint and draw about ‘Swacch Bharat’, ‘Clean House’, and ‘Road Safety’. Using color pencils, crayons and water colors, children have drawn their imagination of how helmet rule has to be followed.

Keeping the surroundings clean, healthy home-healthy society, increase of green cover were few of the important subjectsthey had to follow. They came up with several ideas that depicted the themes in a sensible way.

They were appreciated for their vision. Advisor of Fine Arts, CCV, M Balamani said that they have embarked on this event to inculcate social responsibility among children. With arts, concepts can be easily demonstrated. The workshop not only aims at encouraging children to resort to art, but also tries to impart knowledge on our traditions, culture and literature, she added.

Summer art camp also includes activities like painting workshop, paper masche painting and puppet making. A workshop on weaving on frame and stenciling painting will be organised on April 25th and 26th for children. Also, training in puppet making, paper masche painting will be given on April 27, 28 and 29. At the end of the summer art camp, a puppet show will be held on April 30, she added.
