Eluru: The sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), raided the house of Deputy Engineer in Eluru Municipal Corporation, Vangapandu Satyanarayana, and nabbed him for possessing Rs 30 crore assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Acting on a tip-off, an ACB team led by DSP Rajendra on Thursday morning conducted simultaneous searches at Eluru and Gudiwada including the office and residence of Satyanarayana. The simultaneous searches revealed that Satyanarayana owned a 240 sq yards of site in Gulabi Thota area, two plots in Vijayalakshmi Residency, Satya Residency at RR Pet area in Eluru and seven acres of land at Kothuru village near Eluru.
“The accused official was also found in possession of cash and one kg of gold. ‘‘The market value of these properties would be about Rs 30 crore,’’ ACB DSP Rajendra said. The ACB DSP said the movable properties also include a bank account in the name of the wife of the accused, Sridevi, with a total bank balance of Rs 12 lakh. “Satyanarayana was also involved in ‘benami’ property transactions involving his sister-in-law and Eluru Municipal Corporation work inspector Kodi Satyanarayana. He spent 12 lakh towards college fees for his son's education in Hyderabad,” he added. The ACB DSP said that Satyanarayana joined the Municipality as a work inspector in 1980 and got promoted as AE in 1992. He worked in Vijayawada, Pithapuram, Kovvuru and later got promoted as DE in Eluru Municipal Corporation in 2013. The ACB DSP said that Satyanarayana will be produced before ACB court in Vijayawada on Friday. ACB CI U J Wilson and others participated in the raids.
