Power supply disrupted at several places in Nellore

Nellore: Heavy rains lashed Nellore district accompanied by strong winds owing to deep depression in Bay of Bengal. Many trees and electric poles were uprooted in many parts of the district, disrupting power supply. Particularly mandals located on the southern part of the district bore the brunt of heavy rains on Wednesday with around 14 cm.

The depression concentrated close to Chennai city at 240 kms in the early hours, and it slowly moved in the northern direction and is now located around 130 kms southeast of Nellore. As a result of close proximity to the seacoast, Nellore city has been witnessing strong winds with trees uprooting.

Power supply in areas close to Balaji Nagar is also affected. On an average the district had received 4.2 cm rainfall just on Wednesday alone.

Tada and Sullurpet mandals which are located on the southern end of the district, close to Chennai city, witnessed huge rainfall of around 14 cm. Coastal mandals Kota and Vakadu also experienced 11 to 12 cm rainfall. Muthukur received 10 cm, Indukurpet 7 cm, and Rapur, TP Gudur, Naidupet and other mandals received around 6 cm till evening.

Nellore city received 3.5 cm rainfall till evening. District SP Vishal Gunni and Gudur Sub-Collector PS Girisha visited low-lying areas in Kadaluru and Mambattu and directed the offcials to shift the people of affected areas to safe places. They also visited Pulicat Lake and interacted with local fishermen and asked them not to venture into the sea for fishing.
