Ongole: Hitting out at the Union government for denying special status to the State, The Hans India Editor and former MLC Prof K Nageshwar observed that special category status and financial benefits extended by the Centre to the State were interlinked.

He made these comments at a seminar organised by the Prakasam district unit of Akhila Bharata Abhyuadaya Vedika on 'Special status to Andhra Pradesh- state development’ here on Sunday.

He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not respecting promises made on the floor of the House and was not following the recommendations of 12 th and 14 th Finance Commission reports.

He questioned why the TDP government was not asking for 50 per cent royalty from the gas extracted from the Krishna- Godavari basin as proposed in the 12 th Finance Commission report.

Referring to BJP and TDP leaders’ statements that the State would get more funds than it would in case of special status was accorded, he questioned why Modi was not announcing the same openly if that was the case.

He lambasted at Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu for not standing up for what they themselves had supported in the Parliament during bifurcation.

The former MLC challenged that he would not speak in public fora if TDP and BJP prove that special status to Andhra Pradesh was not listed in the 14th Finance Commission.
