Vijayawada: BJP State leaders on Wednesday decided to hit back at the Telugu Desam party’s campaign on the Special Status issue and conduct meetings on the issue in seven cities in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of the State within three weeks.

The BJP leaders are unhappy with the campaign launched by Telugu Desam leaders that the BJP government at the Centre had cheated Andhra Pradesh on Special Status issue and was not giving sufficient funds to the State after bifurcation.

BJP State president K Haribabu, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, Daggubati Purandeswari, Somu Veerraju, Gokaraju Gangaraju and others attended the meeting at the party office on Wednesday. The BJP leaders decided to create awareness among people on the funds and schemes sanctioned by the Central government to Andhra Pradesh, during the last two years.

The party leaders decided to conduct meetings in Vijayawada, Vizag, Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, Nellore, Tirupati and Anantapur. They also decided to invite Central Ministers and other top BJP national leaders for the seven meetings to be held before June 15.

The dates of meetings are not yet finalised. The party leaders also discussed how to successfully conduct the meetings in seven cities and vigorously campaign on the welfare and development schemes being implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
