Vijayawada: Development works at Sri Kanaka Durga Temple atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada are going on at a brisk pace despite of incessant rains for the past two days.

The officials are busy in demolishing the structures including Bahvani Mandapam near main temple.

As Krishna Pushkaralu fast approaching, the officials are busy to clear the circulating area around the temple.

As per the master plan, the existing structures including EO office, Annadana Mandapam and Prasadam counters are to be shifted from the present buildings.

The Annadana Mandapam accommodated at Srungeri Peetam near Kanaka Durga Nagar and Prasadam counters to be shifted to Budhavari Satram Kalyanamandapam.

According to temple sources, the authorities are planning to make use of Mallikharjuna Maha Mandapam constructed on the lines of Tirumala queue complex for the coming Krishna Pushkaralu.

As part of the development works, the officials closed the ghat road from Wednesday to carry out the development works and diverted the devotees through steps route in Mallikharjunapet.

However, a devotee Kannababu of Eluru expressed doubts over completion of works before Krishna Pushkaralu with the commencement of monsoon. He expressed fear that devotees may be inconvenienced if the officials fail to complete the works.

The devotee said that the temple officials should concentrate on providing dormitory facility near the temple surroundings for the devotees coming from far off places. With no such facilities near the temple, the devotees are forced to depend on private accommodation.

Meanwhile, another devotee MS Murthy of Vijayawada expressed happiness over the demolition of structures around the temple to increase circulating area for devotees at the temple.

He said at present devotees are facing congestion with the existing structures including shops at the entry point. Once all the structures were removed devotees could move freely around the temple, he added.

Recollecting the presence of a Koneru near the main temple two to three decades ago, he said that the temple authorities should develop Koneru.

On the other hand, the district authorities are busy in developing the road at the foot of hill to complete the works before Krishna Pushkaralu.
