Rajamahendravaram: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham on Tuesday threatened to launch fast unto death protest from June 9 (Thursday) if the government does not withdraw cases by Wednesday against all those who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the violence during Kapu Garjana.

Mudragada, who refused to come out of the bus till late on Tuesday evening, finally relented. Earlier in the day, police took the Kapu leader by a bus from Amalapuram to Kirlampudi.

Mudragada told media that the government was behaving in an irresponsible manner and was trying to demean the “Kapu jati.” He said he and his followers were being harassed since January 31 by hoisting false cases against them.

“I can’t bear harassment of innocent people anymore. It is my responsibility to protect my followers,” he said.
