Amaravati: The government has taken steps to introduce bar coding system for the first time in Asia’s biggest Mirchi Yard in Guntur to check irregularities in the Mirchi Yard from July 1. The government has already called tenders to purchase weighing scales and bar coding machine at a cost of Rs 1 crore. As soon as the machines will be set up, bar coding system will be introduced as a part of e-trading. The officials are expected to get the machines within a week. They will start trial run from June 20. If everything goes smoothly, they will start bar coding system for chilli bags from July 1. Joint Collector and Mirchi Yard person in-charge Cherakuri Sridhar has reviewed arrangements and instructed the officials to introduce this system.

Once bar coding system is introduced, three gates of Mirchi Yard will be closed. Vehicles carrying chilli bags will be allowed in four gates. As soon as vehicle enters on the Mirchi Yard premises, it will be recorded in the CCTV. As the drivers flash out-pass, barrier will open.

Guntur Mirchi Yard secretary T Diwakar said, “We are introducing bar coding for the first time in the State to check irregularities in the Mirchi Yard. Bar Coding slip contains information about farmer, trader, commission agent number, lot number, weight of the bag, variety etc,. We will get one hundred weighing scales.They will be connected to a printer. As soon as a button is pressed, we will get bar coding slip. On completion of weighment, we will get bar coding slip automatically. We are introducing this arrangement as a part of e-trading system. We have trained weighing men in bar coding system. After installing machines, we will impart one or two days training to the staff. Though it is unseason for Mirchi Yard, every day we will get some chilli bags.”
