Vijayawada: Electric poles installed on Eluru Road and MG Road are getting damaged due to negligent work of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). As part of the beautification of roads in the city for Krishna Pushkaralu, the VMC has decided to demolish the existing old dividers and construct new dividers for growing plants.

Everyone likes greenery and beauty. But, electrical poles, which give lighting to the citizens should not be damaged. The VMC is damaging dozens of poles on Eluru Road and M G Road. Some poles are severely damaged and can fell on passersby or vehicles at any time.

Luckily, there are no gales in the city in recent days. Gigantic advertisement hoardings, poles and big trees are falling on the roads in many cities in recent months due to gales and high speed winds.

During the change of season from summer to rainy season, strong winds are very common in Vijayawada. Coastal areas are prone to cyclones. In this backdrop, poles should be installed with strong basement.

Strangely, in Vijayawada, the civic body is damaging the electric poles and weakening the basement. The road dividers are destroyed with poclainers. The poclainer operators are using excess force to remove the cement structure on the road.

Consequently, the electrical poles are getting damaged. Citizens are wondered about the reckless attitude of the poclainer operators who are least worried about the damage caused to the electrical poles.

Thousands of people pass on the Eluru road and M G Road every day. Some poles are severely damaged and can fall on the passersby or vehicles moving on the road. Electric poles are installed and maintained by the VMC with the taxes collected from the people.

CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar alleged that the VMC was wasting lakhs of rupees by demolishing the dividers and constructing new dividers. He alleged the VMC had axed hundreds of trees in the city for road-widening and developing works. It was now trying to grow small plants on dividers.

Tax Payers Association secretary M Anjaneyulu condemned the demolition of existing dividers and construction of new dividers for growing small plants. He questioned why the VMC had removed hundreds of big trees in the city and now wasting money for growing small plants, which does not give shade to the people, he added.
