Visakhapatnam: Reliability, risk analysis and optimisation are mathematical tools to enhance performance of component of a structure or the structure as a whole but this theory is equally applicable to predict the winners in elections, said California State University Civil and Environmental Engineering Prof P Chandrasekhar here on Friday at GITAM University.

He participated in a workshop on ‘Reliability and Risk Analysis’ organised by GITAM Civil Engineering Department. He briefed how the US experts predicted the winning probability of Obama during 2012 US President elections basing on mathematical model.

He briefed that using the principles of reliability and risk analysis we can solve the fatal strokes in human beings.
He said that the concepts of mathematical modeling embedded with reliability, risk analysis and optimisation helps various disciplines such as engineering, business/economics, kinesiology, political science and sociology.

Vice-Chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao felicitated the guest. The University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof K Sivarama Krishna, Registrar Prof M.Potharaju, GITAM Institute of Technology Principal Prof K Lakshmiprasad, UGC Affairs Director Prof Ch Rakakrishna, Civil Engineering Department Head Prof Ramesh and others participated in the programme.
