She attended as chief guest at the valedictory function of training for tribal youths in making of handicrafts with bamboo and cane held under the aegis of ITDA, AP State Skill Development Agency (APSSDC) and Balakavi Educational Seva Trust (BEST) at Youth Training Centre in Bommuru of Rajamahendravaram rural mandal on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajani Sesha Sai stressed the need for promoting products like bamboo and cane as alternatives to plastic. She recalled that the MCR had successfully banned plastic in the city.
Stating that East Godavari district is famous for making handicrafts, she lauded the tribal youth for creating masterpieces with bamboo and cane. She assured that the corporation is ready to provide marketing facility for forest products like soap berry, honey and juices as well as the bamboo and cane products.
ITDA project officer K V N Chakradhar Babu said that ITDA, Rampa Chodavaram is the only ITDA in the State to run six youth training centres and added that 25 courses were being taught in the centres. He said that the centres were providing pre-recruitment training for tribal youth.
He said that the BEST is providing marketing facilities for the products made with bamboo and cane and informed that talks are going on with Amazon to provide marketing for bamboo products globally.
He said that an action plan has been formulated to promote bamboo and cane products as well as minor forest products like honey and soap berry.
Rajamahendravaram Urban district SP B Raja Kumari lauded the ITDA and BEST for imparting training among tribal youths for securing employment and for promoting bamboo and cane products.
She said that such skill development programmes will enable the rural men and women artisans to become self-reliant, and to compete in outside markets.
BEST honorary president B V S Bhaskar and SIC AD Francis were also present.
Professional training in making bamboo products can give a boost to the region’s economy and generate employment for the youth.
