The Minister, who arrived here for attending a swearing-in function of Telugu Rythu district president P Manohara Naidu, made a surprise visit to Rythu Bazaar here on Wednesday. 

Chittoor: Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao said that the State government has been making efforts to make Rythu Bazaars free from exploitation of middlemen so that farmers can be benefitted.

The Minister, who arrived here for attending a swearing-in function of Telugu Rythu district president P Manohara Naidu, made a surprise visit to Rythu Bazaar here on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Chittoor MLA DK Satyaprabha, TDP district president G Srinivasulu and other TDP leaders. Pulla Rao has interacted with farmers and enquired with them about the facilities being offered at Rythu Bazaar.

Speaking on the occasion, Pulla Rao said that the Chief Minister is committed to the welfare of farming community. He said that the government is making plans to strengthen 80 Rythu Bazaars to protect interests of farmers. The Minister has advised farmers to make use of Rythu Bazaars for selling their vegetables for remunerative prices.

He stated that the government will be spending Rs 200 crore for upgrading facilities at Rythu Bazaars. “Efforts are on to set up ripeningchamber-cum-cold-storage units in Rythu Bazaars,” he said and added that mobile Rythu Bazaars would be introduced soon in Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

The Minister instructed the Estate Officer to take immediate steps for providing the power supply for all the shops in Rythu Bazaar. The farmers made an appeal to the Minister to instruct the APSRTC to run services from various rural villages to Rythu Bazaar.

A woman farmer, Ramanamma, has informed the Minister that she has been selling vegetables for the last ten years in Rythu Bazaar and earning decently to run her family.

MLA Satyaprabha has requested the Minister to depute a horticulture assistant in Rythu Bazaar so that the farmers can be guided for improving their horticultural produce.
