Vijayawada: With only three weeks left for the beginning of the Krishna Pushkaralu, the R&B department has hastened the road development works in the city, particularly in Kummaripalem, Bhavanipuram and Gollapudi.
The Krishna district administration is vigorously trying to lay the four-lane road connecting Kummaripalem and Prakasam barrage. The road is being constructed as part of the Durga temple flyover works.
The R&B department took up the works six months ago with an objective of completing the flyover works before Krishna Pushkaralu in August. As the time is running out for completion of flyover works, the officials have decided to lay the four-lane road and stop the pillar works. Pillar-laying works will be resumed after Krishna Pushkaralu.
The four-lane highway lane connecting Kummaripalem and Prakasam barrage adjacent to bathing ghats will be very useful to lakhs of pilgrims during the Krishna Pushkaralu.
The district administration is giving top priority for laying the four-lane tar road. Chief Minster Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers P Narayana, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and others are inspecting the road works at Kummaripalem and Prakasam barrage regularly and reviewing the progress of works.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed at these ghats upstream of Prakasam barrage during Pushkaralu. The highest number of pilgrims may take bath in these three ghats because these ghats are very near to the Durga temple.
Devotees prefer to take bath in Krishna river very near to Durga temple. District Collector Babu A said the four-lane road would be ready from Kummaripalem to Prakasam barrage by the end of July. He is personally monitoring the works and reviewing the progress of works.
The R&B department also intensified the widening of four-lane road connecting Gollapudi and Chitti Nagar. This four-lane road will be used as alternative road to Durga flyover during Krishna Pushkaralu.
The R&B department developed the two-lane road five years ago at a cost of Rs 8 crore. Now, again the road is widened to four-lane to meet the vehicle rush during Krishna Pushkaralu.
