Jammalamadugu: Three sheep were killed and 28 more seriously injured in an attack by two leopards in Gandikota village of this mandal in the on Thursday morning. Sheep-rearer Venkataramana said that the attack took place at around 3 am. The movement of the wild animals was also confirmed by the residents, who said that sheep were also killed in the past.

The injured sheep were shifted to the veterinary hospital at Gudemcheruvu and treated by Dr Lakshmidevi. She stated that the injuries indicated that the sheep were attacked by a wild animal.

She also visited the village to treat the injured sheep there. The villagers said as they were mainly depending on sheep-rearing for livelihood, the government should compensate them for the loss of the animals. They also wanted protection from leopards.
