Narsapuram: Prof D Venkateswara Rao, Director of Gandhian Studies Centre, Sri YN College said that present youth in the world are being attracted by religious fanaticism and indulging in violence such as bomb blasts. They are doing so due to lack of orientation on the importance of humanity and human values, he opined.

He attended as guest speaker at an orientation programme for NCC cadets on Gandhian Values for World Peace, organised by 7 (A) Naval Unit of Sri YN College here on Tuesday.

He said Gandhian principles are still relevant in the present society. He added that it was the only way and method to divert the youth and to reduce such unwanted elements in the world. He called upon the youth to propagate Gandhian principles, which advocate human values.

Gandhiji’s principles like truth, non-violence, Swadesh, Swaraj, Satyagraha and Sarvodaya are very significant in the market-oriented economic society to come out from its ill-effects, he said.

He asked the NCC Cadets to emulate and imbibe the Gandhian values in their life and develop their personality to become a responsible citizen.

Camp Commandant Commander Shyam Sunder presided over the programme. He asked the cadets to imbibe the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and serve the nation for its progress.

Dr ARS Kumar, senior ANO and Ramana Rama Rao, ANO attended the programme. About 280 NCC cadets from various units of colleges in Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari districts attended. Prof Rao presented the life history of Mahatma through
PowerPoint.
