Officials directed to expedite Tadipudi Lift Irrigation Scheme works

Eluru: District Collector K Bhaskar said that irrigation water would be supplied to two lakh acres by constructing field-channels under Tadipudi Lift Irrigation Scheme (TLIS), in the district. He reviewed the progress of the projects with officials and contractors at a meeting on Saturday.

He directed the officials to complete the remaining works of the field-channels in11 mandals under TLIS as soon as possible. He stated that field channels would have to be dug to a stretch of 971 km in 51 villages in Tadepalligudem, Nallajerla, Unguturu, Bhimadole, Dwaraka Tirumala, Denduluru, Gopalapuram, Devarapalli, Koyyalagudem, Chagallu and Kovvuru mandals.

He said that 2 lakh acres of farm lands would get irrigation water once the construction of field channels was completed. The Collector directed the officials to create awareness among the farmers on the field channels. He also instructed the officials to prepare a route-map to enable the water to reach the tail-end lands also, through the field-channels.

He suggested engaging the farm labourers under National Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to dig the field- channels. He said the field- channels would be extremely beneficial to the farmers in the present scenario of drought and depleted water levels. With respect to horticulture, he directed the micro- irrigation officials to prepare an action plan for drip-irrigation in fruit orchids.

The Collector made it clear that compensation for the lands acquired for the irrigation projects would be paid only as per government norms. He also clarified that once the government has announced a compensation for land acquired earlier, the farmers would not be eligible to get compensation under the new Land acquisition act.

Joint Collectors P Koteswara Rao, MH Sheriff, District Revenue Officer K Prabhakar Rao, Special Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition) Bhanu Prasad, Narsapuram Sub-Collector AS Dinesh Kumar, ITDA Project Officer Shan Mohan, RDOs N Tej Bharath, Lavanna, Srinivasa Rao, Irrigation SE B Srinivasa Yadav and other officials participated in the review meeting.
