A large number of citizens participated in processions, which started at St Paul’s Cathedral Church near Benzi Circle, Gunadala, Andhra Loyola College and the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium. All the processions reached Mother Teresa Circle near Siddhartha Collge where tributes were paid to Teresa to mark the canonisation.

Vijayawada: Citizens of Vijayawada, members of the Missionaries of Charity, Christian organisations took out a massive procession in the city to mark the canonisation of Mother Teresa on Sunday. City Police Commissioner D Gautam Sawang garlanded the statue of Mother Teresa at PB Sidhartha College junction.

A large number of citizens participated in processions, which started at St Paul’s Cathedral Church near Benzi Circle, Gunadala, Andhra Loyola College and the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium. All the processions reached Mother Teresa Circle near Siddhartha Collge where tributes were paid to Teresa to mark the canonisation.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang appealed to the citizens to follow in the footsteps of Mother Teresa. “The great Vatican City Pope Francis declared sainthood status to Mother Teresa, he said. All over the World 126 countries paid tributes to Mother Teresa,” he added.

Mother served orphans, blind and elderly people and the needy, he said. He recalled that Mother came from Yugoslavia to Kolkata and took Indian citizenship to serv the needy, he reminded.

Mother Teresa visited Vijayawada four times, he recalled. Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao lauded the services of Mother Teresa. A large number of fathers, priests, sisters and workers of NGOs took part in the procession.
