​Chittoor: Minister for Endowments Manikyala Rao felt that there was a need to improve the facilities at Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple in Kanipakam. He instructed the Executive Officer (EO) of the temple to submit a comprehensive report on the developmental works to be undertaken at the temple.

He presented ‘Pattu Vasthralu’ (silk clothes) to the deity on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister lamented at the lack of facilities at the temple, despite tremendous growth in revenues.

Manikyala Rao expressed his happiness over arrangements for the ongoing Brahmotsavalu. “It is mandatory on the part of the temple to ensure free accommodation to pilgrims. Devotees should be given an opportunity to stay in the temple for a little longer. Communication system should be developed and medical facilities have to be in place,” he stressed.

Referring to encroachment of temple lands, the Minister made it clear that the government has a plan in place to evict the encroachers. He vowed to restore the temple lands. When the Minister tried to interact with the pilgrims, many apprised him of the difficulties they are facing at the temple.

Many said that the people manning queues are paying a deaf ear to the complaints. Earlier, the temple authorities gave the Minister a rousing reception. He was given a traditional welcome by the EO P Purnachandra Rao. The Minister performed special puja and later was treated to a recitation of Vedas.

District Collector Siddharth Jain, superintendent of police G Srinivas and other also visited the temple on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti.
