Visakhapatnam: Top naval officials will review the search operations so far they have conducted to trace the missing AN 32 Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft in Chennai on Wednesday.

“The officials will analyse the search operations conducted at specific spots in Bay of Bengal where the aircraft is suspected to have plunged into,’’ said a senior naval official. A decision would also be taken to specify length of search period.

Most likely the search will continue till the end of this month and another review meeting would be held to call off. This has been India’s largest search operation in the history.

Meanwhile, the family members of eight missing persons from Visakhapatnam gave up hopes of survival. Though the naval officials are in constant touch with the family members and explaining them the search operations, many believe that the bodies cannot be retrieved.

The aircraft went missing on July 22 along with 29 personnel on board. The last contact between the ATC at Chennai and the crew was at 8.46 am, 15 minutes after it took off and the last radar blip was at 9.12 am. Chennai air traffic radar transcripts at 1 pm on the day showed the aircraft carried out a left turn with rapid loss of altitude from 23,000 feet.
