Anantapur: Minister for Information Technology Palle Raghunatha Reddy rubbished criticism of the Opposition parties on the ‘Operation Rain Guns’. Terming wetting of dried crops as a unique concept, the Minister said other States would follow the example of AP.

Addressing media at municipal guest house here on Wednesday, Reddy informed that the second spell of operation has begun and 2.90 lakh acres were covered. He said 5,200 rain guns, 4,750 sprinklers and 2,404 oil engines have been pressed into service.

The Minister said he would release a White Paper on the operation to negate the criticism of the opposition. “In the first phase of the operation, water was mobilised from check dams, canals, farm ponds, Handri-Neeva project and tanks for wetting the crops,” he added.

Reddy accused Congress and YSRCP of spreading lies. He asserted that input subsidy and crop insurance would be paid to farmers, after assessing the crops post groundnut harvest.

“Input subsidy and crop insurance is the brainchild of CM N Chandrababu Naidu. He wrote to the Centre to make groundnut crop applicable for insurance coverage under the Fasal Bima scheme,” he stated.
