Vijayawada: Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have geared up for the state-wide bandh on Saturday protesting against denial of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Interestingly, Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, who took the BJP to task and lashed at TDP at the Kakinada meeting, said that he would not want people to suffer. “Why should students’ studies get affected,” he asked adding “let the leaders of political parties, MPs and MLAs to take such trouble.”

Meanwhile, the Congress party has announced that they would block the national highways. All the opposition parties have urged the people to make the bandh a success. The bandh is likely to affect the services of APSRTC, including long distance services as the political parties have decided to block the national highways.

On the other hand, the State police is gearing up to prevent any untoward incident in the state. DGP N Sambasiva Rao on Friday convened a meeting with the higher officials in Vijayawada and instructed to take all measures to prevent any untoward incident.

The police anticipate that the impact would be more in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa, Chitoor and Nellore districts. The DGP called upon the opposition parties not to force the shop keepers to pull down the shutters or create problems for the common people.

He said the police will use modern technology like drones and CCTVs to get the first hand information about the bandh. Section 144 will be in force to regulate public assemblies and processions.
