Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly witnessed unprecedented scenes on Friday when a scuffle broke out between opposition YSRCP MLAs and marshals inside the Assembly.

The MLAs not only pushed the marshals but also climbed on the benches, pulled away the mike from Speaker’s podium and threw paper balls at him forcing him to adjourn the House.

Even as the Minister for Legislative Affairs Y Ramakrishnudu announced that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would make a statement on special package and it could be converted into a discussion, the YSRCP MLAs objected to it and said that the Speaker should take up the discussion first and said they were not in favour of a statement from the Chief Minister.

While the Speaker was trying to explain to them about the procedure, they rushed into the well raising slogans demanding special category status and climbed on to the podium. As they tried to surround the Speakers chair, few marshals tried to throw a security cover around the Speaker and this resulted in a scuffle.

A visibly upset Speaker chided the opposition members saying "you are committing a big mistake", and asked them to return to their seats. "Don't attack the marshals. That is not correct. This is a legislative house, bear in mind and learn how to behave in the House," Kodela said.

"If you think attacking the marshals is the members' right, there can't be nothing more unfortunate. The entire State is watching (your behaviour)," the Speaker told the protesting opposition members.

The high-handed behaviour towards the Speaker's position was not correct, Kodela said, adding that everyone should respect the Chair. "Do you support this high-handed behaviour?

You are not realising what a big mistake you are committing. If you have decency and wisdom, ask your members to resume their seats," the Speaker told the YSRC deputy leader. In the melee, a couple of MLAs and marshals tripped.

The Speaker admonished the members for their behaviour and told the marshals not to touch the members. As the MLAs did not move out, he adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

When the house re-assembled and the Speaker was reading out the condolence resolution for those former MLAs who died recently, the YSRCP MLAs again trooped into the well and repeated their earlier performance.

This time they also snatched away the mike from Speaker’s podium and threw paper balls at him. Unhappy with the behaviour of the members, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
