Pithapuram: The upland farmers’ hopes of reaping a good harvest were smashed once again as their agricultural fields were submerged following incessant rain that lashed out the district for the past four days. Yeleru, Suddagadda, Pushkar and other canals are flowing to the brim due to heavy inflows. Small and medium drains are also overflowing in the district.

Paddy crop spread over thousands of acres in Pithapuram, Gollaprolu, Prathipadu, Sankhavaram, Yeleswaram, Gandepalli, Rangampeta and other mandals was inundated. The paddy fields which were completely dry a fortnight ago looked like tanks now. Vegetable and commercial crops in the upland areas were also badly damaged.

The weather forecast of further rainfall in the coming two days left the farmers in distress. However, the farmers are making all efforts to salvage their crops by letting out the rainwater from the fields.
