Vijayawada: CPI organised ‘mouna deeksha’(silent protest) demanding the Centre to grant Special Category Status (SCS) at Lenin centre, here on Sunday. The party said that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu should be ashamed for ditching the people of Andhra Pradesh on the issue.
Speaking to reporters, CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna said that both the BJP and TDP had ditched the people of the State by denying SCS even as the parties made promises on the issue in the last elections.
It was shame on Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu to accept felicitations by his cadre even after he betrayed people of Andhra Pradesh by maintaining silence on Special Category Status issue, Ramakrishana said.
“Venkaiah Naidu had maintained till last minute that Centre was in favour of granting SCS to the State. Surprisingly, he changed his words and defended the Centre’s announcement on special package immediately after the statement of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley”, he said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was also part of the conspiracy of betraying the people, Ramakrishna said. Both the leaders were still continuing their game by making different announcements on the amount which would be offered to the State under special package.
“Venkaiah Naidu said that the worth of special package Rs 2.25 lakh crore, while it is Rs 70,000 crore as per Chandrababu Naidu” he opined.
Ramakrishna said that the package or Special Category Status was the constitutional right of people. He made it clear the CPI would not stop its fight for the Special Category to the State and special package to north Andhra districts.
CPI state council member Jalli Wilson, district secretary A Vanaja, city secretry Donepudi Sankar and others participated.
