Chittoor: In a joint operation, the Chittoor district police and red sanders Task Force arrested seven smugglers and seized 72 logs of red sanders and 6 four-wheelers from them. Speaking to the media on Monday, Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas said that the arrests were a result of the combing operation in the areas falling in the jurisdiction of Kallur, Gudipala and Varadayapalem police stations, in the last two days.
The SP further said that among the arrested was S Ramudu (53), a notorious red sanders smuggler. Ramudu, a resident of Mydukur in Kadapa district had reportedly exported over 200 MTs of red sanders in the last ten years. He is a close associate of Lakshman, the international red sanders smuggler and there were a number of cases registered against Ramudu at different police stations, said the SP.
The remaining smugglers have been identified as Yellapa Reddy (28), a resident of Chennai, Dasthagiri (32), resident of Rudravaram in Kadapa District, Varakumar (25), Pradep (29), Harish and Avinash also from Kadapa district. Police seized two tractors and four Bolero vehicles besides 72 red sanders from them. Additional Superintendent of Police V Ratna (Operations) and others were present.
