12th century Shivalingam cries for attention
A rare 10 feet Shivalinga of 12th century was found on the premises of Sri Lingodbhava Swamy temple at Chandole village in Guntur district.
Vijayawada: A rare 10 feet Shivalinga of 12th century was found on the premises of Sri Lingodbhava Swamy temple at Chandole village in Guntur district.
According to the inscriptions of 1168, 1170 and 1176 AD, the temple was built by Kulothunga Rajendra Chola, a Velanati chief, who ruled the area with Chandole, as his capital in the 12th century. The Shivalinga was removed from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple sometime ago and kept in the open.
