Visakhapatnam: The fifth and final One Day International match between India and New Zealand, said to be the decider match, has witnessed a surge in the prices of lower denomination tickets. The match is being held at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag under flood lights on October 29.
Taking advantage of the crucial match, the tickets are now being sold in black market for a premium. People from north coastal Andhra and East Godavari, particularly youth are camping in Vizag to grab few tickets for the match.
According to market sources, Rs 400 tickets are being sold for Rs 1,000 or more and Rs 1,000 tickets for Rs1,500 plus, while Rs1,500 tickets are sold between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500, said a group of youth who came from Kakinada watch the key match.
However, general secretary of Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and vice-president of BCCI, Gokaraju Gangaraju, said a total of 10,500 lower denomination tickets (Rs 400, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500) were sold out on day one on October 25 while more than 70 per cent of higher denomination (Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000) tickets were sold out.
People, who got the tickets on October 25 at various Mee-Seva centres in Vizag are lucky enough. However, many sports lovers mostly youngsters are coughing up more to watch the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. In fact, it was in this ground that ace keeper Dhoni hit his maiden century.
The demand for the Vizag match has suddenly shot up after the visitors leveled the series with 2-2 and the cyclone storm Kyant fizzled out. Another reason for the huge demand, is that Vizag stadium is lucky for the Indian team, which won four out of five ODI matches played so far.
Dhoni would be reluctant to lose a match here since he shot into limelight and went on to become captain of the Indian team. However, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Task Force I Chitti Babu said they are on the lookout for those who are selling the tickets in black.
