Visakhapatnam: Relatives and family members of 19-year-old Chintakayala Mahesh, who died in Singapore, staged a dharna in front of I Town police station, suspecting foul play over his death.

Tension prevailed at the I Town police station as the agitating family members refused to take over the body on Monday. Mahesh was resident of I Town in the city and had gone to Singapore in November as a pipeline fitter through a job consultancy firm Global Technical Training Centre.

Inspector of I Town Police Station K Venkata Rao said that Mahesh reportedly died of a cardiac arrest few days ago and his body reached Vizag Airport on Monday. Mahesh’s family members alleged that the death of his son was not informed by the company and they are suspecting foul play Blaming the consultancy firm for the death of Mahesh, relatives of Mahesh staged a protest in front of the firm and also refused to take the body from the airport.

As the situation turned tense, the police tied to pacify the agitators. The family members finally agreed to take the body after the consultancy firm agreed to come forward with a concrete statement on how the youth had died and also pay the required compensation to the family members.
