Tirupati: Students Federation of India (SFI) has demanded to roll back the increased PG medical course fees immediately. Students belonging to the SFI staged a dharna standing on their knees before the SV Medical College here on Monday. Addressing the dharna, SFI district secretary N Madhava Krishna accused Health Minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas of protecting the interests of private medical colleges.

The decision to increase the PG medical course fees made it beyond the reach of poor students. It is nothing but a conspiracy by the Minister and private medical colleges, they alleged. The fee was increased from Rs 2.9 lakh to Rs 6.9 lakh for A category, from Rs 5.25 lakh to Rs 24.2 lakh for B category students. For C category, Rs 72.2 lakh is the new fee. Is it justifiable, they asked?

They warned the Minister to take steps immediately and rollback the increased fees. The SFI will not allow him to participate in any programme in any district, they stated. SFI city secretary B Girikumar Reddy, District vice-president M Prasanna, Sridhar, Siva Teja, Uma Mahesh Reddy, Uday, Balaji and others have participated.
